Zacatecas the magical land.
A few days ago we arrived in the magical land of Zacatecas. It sort of stole my heart with its winding charm. It seems it steals other peoples hearts as a common saying here is, there is very much to do here but I seem to just still be here. It’s got Christmas charm too.
It’s got colonial buildings with these neverending winding nookholes Cute little plazas, happy people. It’s become one of my favourite places in Mexico. Cara and I stumbled upon a Christmas concert that was this amazing classical performance with a world class Chilean opera singer all set in this nice church. Last night we stumbled upon this cute little Italian restaurant with a man from San Marino (its own country) and it felt like we’d just gone to his house for dinner.
They have a nightclub in a silver mine here.
Mezcal, the Mexican drink really still is disgusting. I had a shot last night and wanted to vomit. I again vow never to ever have tequila or mezcal again.
I also want to bring my Dad here. I keep walking around just wishing he was here because he would LOVE this place. And there is even good bread. And the best bakery Mexico has. It’s so liveable. And we even found wine after a little bit of a search.
The Oxxo down the road provided me with a fair amount of joy. We went to buy cheese to make Ke-so-de-ahs, and I grabbed one out of the fridge, as I went to close the door I hear this faint scream. I am seriously confused, I think Cara and Jo were a bit more saavy, or at least had seen the man in the fridge. I’m busying freaking out, and asking the woman in the shop if there is a man in the fridge. She is laughing…and nodding. Bloody ripper. Man in fridge was still laughing when we left.
We went on a little day trip to ‘La Quemada’, literally, the burned, because it was all burnt down. Some ruins in the middle of nowhere, desert, kind of Alice Springs like. Tamales for picnic lunch and Mexico’s cheapest beer at the end of a nice day in the sun and desert.
We heart Zacatecas.

That sounds so lovely (except for the man in the fridge bit- thats just funny!)… I think I want to come and play! I like the idea of feeling like you’ve gone to someone’s house for dinner when you’ve really gone out… how comfy.. or was it just that he made you do the washing up!
