Las cosas pasadas.
Pues. I don’t really know what I’ve been doing here but the days definitely seem to flutter by rather easily.
I moved into my new house on Monday morning. Which is rather exciting. To think, I live in Mexico. Thinking about it is actually much weirder than it actually is. It’s actually surprisingly normal. But people still speak really fast. I was so overwhelmed by it on Monday night, I spoke the the people in my house for awhile and then had to hide in my room. I understand why people do that now when they don’t know the language. I can’t explain but I understand it.
Anyway, I was feeling all a bit down on myself because my Spanish was SO bad. And I just wanted to understand and be able to speak(and I still do). But anyway, the past 2 days have been somewhat better after spending more time with Mexicanos. I must be learning a lot each day even though I’m doing nothing. Last night when I got home, I talked to people in my house for hours. I felt like I was understanding heaps more. Partly because they were talking directly with me. And it was really fun and they were fun and we had laughs…and they are muy chido. There are so many Mexicanismos.
So, I was asking them about the police station so I can get a report for my camera. They explained and said they’d come with me. It’s so useful having Mexican friends. And, they say they are like a community and it makes me smile.
Anyway, today I made an expedición. I went to Wal-Mart for the first time ever. And gee, it wasn’t that exciting, but we got good things for the room. And the room is so fun now. Jo, you would be so proud! I’ve taken so many photos so you can see all the fun colours!
Afterwards, we came back and then I spent my afternoon on a grand expedición to the police station with Paco y Luis. A good expedición. Ja. I’m glad I had Mexicans in tow because they sent us to literally 4 different police places across the city, and then, the one we needed was closed. Ja. It didn’t seem to phase them though. They just said we’ll come back, they are lovely. Anyway, I learnt much more of the city today, I never realised how big it was.
But being around another language is exhausting. I still don’t seem to be able to understand much, and I definitely can’t say much.
I caught a bus today.
People are pretty cool here. They don’t seem to have uncomfortable silences, even when you can’t speak the language. I don’t understand how this works. But it must.
