Yip.
I’m feeling pretty merry this week.

I had a dream last night that I got a ‘resubmit’ for my magazine project, which, for all the people in my house, they know that I have been working on ir for months and months. It was so real I could have died. I don’t know I could resit this subject.
What was so painful was that I had thought that I had got it and understood it so well, and then I realised I hadn’t understood the subject. It’s a horrible feeling. It’s like if you finally got a grip on some aspect of grammar in Spanish or something and were using it with confidence and then realise you actually never really understood it in the first place. That’s worse than just not understanding it all in the first place.
Man I hope it stays a dream.

I have really been enjoying my Spanish class this semester. There are lots of nice and friendly and social people in my class. This year of uni has generally been good actually. And it’s quite something I say that this week. In the middle of muchas assignments.

The past couple of weeks I have been so naughty. I haven’t done any work on the weekend for uni. None. This weekend is a great testament so far. All day I have been planning to start, but I haven’t quite got past that planning. It’s almost 5. And then I can start thinking about dinner. Bad bad.
My spanish has improved a lot this weekend. Which is exciting. I am very excited to go to Mexico now because I can see how quickly it will improve. I look very much forward to being fluent. Hemos hablado mucho con nuestros amigos nuevos de Chile. Que divertida!
I have to do a 9 minute speech for spanish in a couple of weeks. That’s pretty insane.
Ahora, trabajo!….
espero…

It was kind of cute, I was coming home on the bus tonight and everyone smelt like mothballs, as if everyone had just brought out their winter woolies.

I was coming home on the bus this afternoon and I saw a girl studying Turkish. She looked intently upon the words and wrote them into tables, desperately trying to find some way to understand the language. I’ve never really observed someone studying another language that I was detached enough from to observe in an objective way. But I kind of love the fact that we human so desperately try to understand things and put them into tables and order them. And I love learning langauges, it is such an intense struggle and commitment to understanding another culture. And you constantly feel so dumb, it’s such a humbling experience. And you learn so much about cultural and langauge barriers.
And…I like that humans try to learn other languages. I think it’s grand. I hope we always have different langauges. I think it would be an incredible loss if we lost languages, and it is a loss as we are losing them.

It was funny. On Saturday night, Ryan and Mum and I were in this nice Irish Pub in the city, and Ryan ordered a pint for some reason I couldn’t quite understand. Anyway, we had about 15 minutes to drink our drinks. Wise wee me, ordered only a half pint and struggled a wee bit with time constraints, but managed to finish it off. We begun to walk out the door although Ryan was still only halfway down his pint, so we stood and took it in turns to gulp it. We polished it off pretty good. As we walked out the door, these two guys in the corner begun to clap us as we walked by.

I think that it becomes problematic when the Spanish words you are looking up make you need an English dictionary to know what the English word means. I’m feeling rather stupid in that sense today. Because I know how not good my Spanish is…
