The answers [to health problems] must include imbuing people with a sense of personal self-worth, a sense of being needed or loved, an ability to influence and control their own environment, and an ability to manage their own problems.”
-Trevor Hancock, in Why Warriors Lie Down and Die, Richard Trudgen
Although, I reckon this could relate to way more than health problems, all sorts of problems. I’m sometimes amazed by my own inability to recognise other peoples ability to deal with their lives. But I can amaze myself in many ways.
When we went to see Leunig talk there was a woman who told us a story about parenting and how someone taught their kids to, when meeting anyone, to look for what that person was better at than them. I thought that was a great idea. I think once you can see someone’s ability to do something better than you you have a whole different level of respect. And I don’t reckon even just kids should do that. I want to do that better too.

That is nice advice. I might try that too.
